Advantages of Concrete (gunite) Swimming Pools

Gunite or a variation called Shotcrete is a type of reinforced concrete; it is strong and adaptable to unusual shapes.

To build one of these pools, the construction crew digs a hole, puts the plumbing in place and assembles a framework grid with 3/8-inch steel reinforcing rods (rebar). The bar rods are spaced about 10 inches apart, and secured together with wire. When the grid is in place, the crew sprays a heavy coating of gunite, a mixture of cement and sand, around the bar.

The sprayer unit combines dry gunite mix with water just before spraying -- this produces the wet concrete material.
The crew trowels the gunite smooth and lets it sit for a week or so before applying a smooth finish to the rough surface. The most popular finish is called plaster but a lot of people finish their pools with special concrete paint. Construction and installation of concrete pools can take 30 to 90 days, depending on the weather and the installer.

Using gunite, you can design any shape of pool. In luxury homes, gunite is simply the best material to work with, since it lends itself to custom pool design. Gunite is the material associated with luxury when a homeowner wants that natural look to their pool.

Thanks to an entirely new selection of design options, homeowners can have Gunite pools that resemble Florida beaches or mountain lakes. Beach entries which look like the sandy beach at the ocean, vanishing edges which give the appearance of the pool dropping off into nothing, and pebble finishes which give the appearance of a lake or creek bed are just a few of the options available.

Advantages of a Gunite Swimming Pool
  • An in-ground gunite pool is a permanent structure it as an extension of your house that is why your property will be worth more with a gunite pool.
  • Gunite pools are custom and more personal, they may cost more and take longer to install, but the added time is clearly worth it. Building a gunite pool you get to pick all the details
  • Gunite pools can also have tile, exposed aggregate or even fiberglass finishes.
  • If you like to think out of the box and seek a more unique design that reflects your personality, a gunite pool would be a better choice. Gunite pools are highly durable, and they can be built in any shape or size.
  • A gunite pool lasts a very long time, but the plaster layer does need replacing every 10-15 years.

Love At The Tennis Court

Sport is one of the most notorious group activities. It brings people together. It makes people aware of each other’s strong and weak points. Sport also has a way of bringing people closer. Many couples around the world met in the sports field. While competing against each other, people begin to form attractions and even fall in love. Competition and rivalry in sports sometimes turns into a whole different set of emotions, which then becomes evident and reveals itself in the outskirts of sports field.

Tennis is an evident example in this matter. Many boys and girls first meet at the tennis field. Even if they aren’t as beautiful as Maria Sharapova, or play with such physical strength as Roger Federer, they still catch the attention of viewers, plunging into the love story, which begins in the tennis game. There are more than several examples to this phenomenon; I shall name two.

In an old American film called "Nobody’s perfect" a guy (played by Chad Lowe) falls in love with a girl (played by Gail O’Grady), while watching her moves at the college tennis court. He tries to get closer to her and ends up dressing up as a girl, playing in her team, as they get ready for an important tennis match. When she finds out the truth about him, she leaves him, but later is forced to ask him to come back and play with her in the important tennis match. Naturally, they play and win, kiss in a happy-end right there at the tennis court, thereby only strengthening the main idea of this tennis article.

Another, far more known example, is the case of Vladimir Nabokov’s "Lolita". When Humbert takes Lolita with him to his hopeless journey, he tries to engage her in sports activities, such as swimming and playing tennis. He describes in very small, exact details the picture he gets watching her play: "She would wait and relax for a bar or two of white-lined time before going into the act of serving, and often bounced the ball once or twice, or pawed the ground a little, always at ease, always rather vague about the tennis scores, always cheerful as she so seldom was in the dark life she led at home".

Needless to say, no one would like to raise the kind of emotions Humbert feels for his beloved; nevertheless, it is hard to argue with the notion that love often sparkles and grows at the sports field.

Mental Tennis Game : How to Avoid Losing to Better Ranked Players

It's always pretty tough to play against players who have a higher ranking than you. Of course, you'll feel the excitement and probably more tension, and it's easy to allow fear take over. However, there are a couple of key elements that you can use in order to beat this fear, and play your best tennis. Here are those mental elements, and how to use them to play strategically against players with highdr rankings.

Realize Who the Pressure Is On

Hey, when you go out there to play this great opponent, you need to realize one thing. Although you might think that all the pressure is on you, the fact is it's not. The pressure is on your opponent because people expect him or her to beat you. Your opponent knows this as well. He understands that he's the one who has to 'make it happen' and that he's the one who's got everything to lose. You, on the other hand, have nothing to lose and everything to gain by playing strategically and realizing who the pressure is really on.

You're Not Playing the Player

You're playing their reputation. In fact, you very well might be just as strong as they are in different areas of the game. However, because they have a better ranking than you, they're favored while you are not. So, use this to your advantage. Realize that they're simply a player just like you are. They also make mistakes just like you do. Remember that you're not already defeated simply because they are the favorite.

Control Your Nerves

If you're playing a higher ranked opponent, you need to realize one thing: they are accustomed to playing the less favored players. They understand that you're going to be nervous and they have most likely learned how to take advantage of those nerves. Rather than playing as if you were the weaker player, just play like if you were playing against any other opponent. It's easy to allow your nerves to make you feel like you have to make serious super hits every single time. Instead, play normally and only make those super hits when you are absolutely sure that they will be successful.

Don't Show Your Fear

Because your opponent is accustomed to taking advantage of nerves, you should definitely not show the fact that you're nervous. There are ways to do this, and one of them is to minimize the eye contact between you and your opponent. Not looking at them will reduce the realization that they are ranked higher and will help you hide the fact that you're nervous from them. This will give you an upper hand in the game. In fact, if you appear to be as calm as you can be, your opponent might start wondering why you're not nervous. If you're lucky, in turn this will make your opponent get a good case of the nerves. This will also help you take control of the game.

Formula One Hungary Grand Prix – The Speed Race Continue

The Hungary Grand Prix is one of the races scheduled in the Formula One calendar and it was first held in 1936 in Budapest. Nevertheless, for a period of approximately 50 years the competition did not take place due to the unstable situation the country was going through. It was until 1986 that this Formula One event took place once again in the Eastern part of Europe.

The Budapest track has a circuit length of 2,722 miles or 4,381 kilometres while the race itself has a length of 306,66 kilometres for a total of 70 laps. In Hungary the driver who has achieved the most wins was the all-time favourite Michael Schumacher in 1994, 1998, 2001, and 2004 while the last Formula One driver to win at this circuit was the British Lewis Hamilton who managed a time of 1:19:674

The Hungaroring as it is often referred to as one of the most difficult tracks for the Formula One drivers due particular characteristics such as: being very narrow and oblique which make it very difficult to surpass and take the advantage. Next August 3rd another race will take place at this track and the real action is expected as the top three drivers continue to battle for extra points in the world championship race to obtain this year’s title.

Last year’s Hungarian champion Lewis Hamilton who currently leads the drivers’ board with 58 points total does not feel very comfortable yet to speak about his future performance with this next task, despite his previous two victories at Silverstone and Hockenheim. The McLaren driver has been able to place himself at the top in front of the two Ferrari drivers Massa and current world champion Kimi Raikkonen who are in second and third place respectively.

In spite of Lewis’ prudent silent in this regards the predictions point out that the young Britton was once again able to take control of his driving possibilities and is living a lift which he can easily take advantage of during the next race...this could certainly be good for him as the more points he gains the better his ranking will be and the gap between the other drivers will become more visible.

"I'm wary about making any strong predictions; yes, we were strong in the last two races, but we encountered difficulties in the two before that, so it's impossible to call it," noted Hamilton. "All I can say is that our car feels fantastic at the moment and I'm really enjoying driving it.

All three drivers Massa, Raikkonen and Lewis are very aware that the Hungaroring or Budapest track is a completely different scenario from what they faced last in Germany, for this one a pit strategy is required and all drivers will have to show their finest skills in order to take the lead from the beginning to have a clear turning otherwise it will turn into a desperately overpowering battle not easy to deal with which may end in an accident that we do not want to witness.

Regardless; it is very certain that we will enjoy the upcoming track while the top drivers continue the racing action to take their teams to the lead of the standings especially now that the season is more than half way through.

Montreal Grand Prix - Round 7 of Formula One Action

The 41st edition of the "Grand Prix du Canada" or Canadian Grand Prix will take place in the late afternoon on Sunday June 8th at the Montreal Circuit. This will be the seventh round of the 2008 Formula One Championship race and it is expected to be a very entertaining competition specially due to the recent F1 overall standings changes; after the latest French street race in Monaco where the McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton achieved a long-expecting victory.

Main McLaren’s rival Ferrari believes the team has shown to have the best chances for a strong performance at the Canadian Grand Prix, where last year the McLaren Hamilton was crowned champion. Ferrari’s principal Stefano Domenicali mentioned "It's easy to say but difficult to do it. For sure, in terms of preparation, we are much more confident of the situation and hopefully it should be different from what we saw last year, we want to be positive for Canada because we take the same kind of approach but we need to be humble because the competition is always very strong".

Certainly; the circumstances are different now that Hamilton is leading the drivers pack but defending World Champion Raikkonen possesses the skills and the drive to grab the top position if he is not taken seriously. Despite the Finn’s nightmare during his Monaco appearance where things just went totally wrong…first he was penalized and began in fourth place and later on was involved in a collision with Force India driver Adrian Sutil due to his team mate’s mistake.

Regardless of what happened;Raikkonen does not look back and gets ready for his next stop in Montreal where this year the Scuderia has surprised with a better vehicle than the one they had last year for this type of tracks where rain and sudden weather changes are expected and it is like the safety car will be in use. Raikkonen’s goal is to be able to breeze through the 70 lap race and end the struggle other Ferrari drivers had faced in Canada.

By winning in Monaco a week ago Hamilton has regrouped McLaren’s hopes to a solid return especially now that the next meeting will be where Hamilton had his dream come true his first and most remembered win of all. We are seeing more and more sparks as the young driver regains control.

On the other hand, there is BMW Sauber team driver Rober Kubica who finished second at the Monaco Grand Prix and with a total of 32 points into the season who seems to be facing greater and deeper problems within his group as there are rumours of possible confrontations with team mate Heidfeld. "I, personally, am not racing against my team-mate, but against all 19 drivers. If I leave them all behind me, then I automatically leave my team-mate behind me too" mentioned Kubica.

After Monaco going to Montreal the Polish driver stays amongst the 2008 leaders of the season where he and Hamilton will face the fastest, the cleverest and most audacious drivers who continue gathering points for the championship win.

Hamilton Wins Monaco Grand Prix

After facing a very difficult race and overcoming all the obstacles in the race, Lewis Hamilton accomplished another victory at the Monaco Grand Prix despite the slippery conditions and an early accident. This victory gave him the advantage in the Formula One standings.

The McLaren driver, who started third on the grid, finished 3 seconds ahead of BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica, while pole sitter Felipe Massa of Ferrari was third at Formula One's most famous race.

"This is going to be the highlight of my career," Hamilton said after giving McLaren its 15th win in 26 races in the principality. "I stayed optimistic and brought it home. It was the most fun I've had in a race, ever."

During the first laps of the race the young Britton driver smashed the wall but then took advantage of the mistake Massa made while racing. Massa, starting from the pole, ran off the track 16 laps but lost the lead to Hamilton who was able to make up for the time he previously lost.

The Britton now possesses 38 points in the overall standings, three points more than the defending champion Kimi Raikkonen whose luck was not on his side as he ended in the ninth position. The Finn’s day started pretty bad with a drive-through penalty and ended with an accident involving the Force India driver Adrian Sutil, but Raikkonen now moves to the second position. Massa is third with 34 points and Kubica next with 32.

Rain showers were intermittent as the drivers took the streets circuit. Hamilton started sandwiched between the Ferraris after moving ahead of Raikkonen on a clean start over the 20 vehicles that were competing that morning. Most drivers were nearly 20 seconds slower than Saturday's qualifying

Additionally, for the second day on a row David Coulthard lost control of his Red Bull machine and crashed out before Toro Rosso's Sebastien Bourdais. Six drivers retired as the 78-lap race was transformed into a clock countdown with Hamilton heading the lead to the end.

Ferrari’s driver Massa was left behind as Kubica took over passed him but things did not look very promising. "I lost the radio for like 20 laps. I couldn't talk to the team, I just looked at the board," Massa said. "It wasn't easy to know what was going on in the race."

This was the second time Hamilton raced in wet and slippery conditions; last year he won the Japanese Grand Prix which was a very complex race due to the weather conditions. But this time in Monaco Hamilton was 17 seconds ahead at the halfway point and with the track drying out, he set another fast lap, 3 seconds better than Massa to push out his lead. The McLaren driver was clear with only the weather to worry about after a quick pit after 54 laps ; a perfect ending for a troubled story as the standings’ board gets really interesting.
